# **Installation Procedure** ## 1. Required Tools * Go to: [https://fpgacademy.org/tools.html](https://fpgacademy.org/tools.html) * Download the following files (recommended version: **21.1**): * **Quartus** * **Questa** * **CycloneV** * Install all three. * Install the **JTAG communication driver (USB-Blaster)**. ## 2. Questa License * A license is required for *Questa*. * Request it here: [Intel Community – Free License Guide] (https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-FPGA-Software-Installation/I-don-t-understand-how-to-create-or-receive-the-free-license-for/td-p/1328029) * Licenses are generated at: [Intel Licensing Support Center](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/programmable/licensing/support-center.html) * The license will be sent via email. * Set up the license following the instructions here: [Intel Software License Setup](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/programmable/683472/22-1/and-software-license.html) * **Alternative:** Use the old **ModelSim** (available in the *Logic Networks* course). ## 3. Altera Monitor Program * Should be downloadable from: [https://fpgacademy.org/tools.html](https://fpgacademy.org/tools.html) * If download fails, use an older version (e.g., **v21.1**) which should be equivalent. ## 4. WSL Installation * Install **WSL1 (Ubuntu 18.04)** as suggested here: [Intel Forum – WSL1 Fix](https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-FPGA-University-Program/intel-FPGA-Monitor-Program-can-t-work/m-p/1405441#M4489) * Apply all updates as explained here: [Installing WSL for Intel FPGA Tools](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/programmable/683525/21-3/installing-windows-subsystem-for-linux.html) ## 5. CD-ROM (System Builder) * Download manuals and CD-ROM from: [cd-de1-soc.terasic.com](http://cd-de1-soc.terasic.com) * The board in use is mainly **version G**, though other versions may exist.
