An American point of view: Henry James
In this seminar we will examine the development of Henry James’s narrative techniques from the formal accessibility of such early works as Roderick Hudson (1875) to the challenging complexity of The Wings of the Dove (1902). As the title suggests, particular attention will be devoted to the question of point of view, both as a narrative technique and as an indicator of cultural, national, and gender identity.
