    • BIOCRYSTALLOGRAPHY AND ELECTRON MICROSCOPY

      Teacher: Rita De Zorzi
      2026/2027
    • TIMETABLE

Lectures of "Biocrystallography and Electron Microscopy" will start on September 30th, with the following timetable:
      • Wednesday 11.15-12.45 - room A8, building C11
      • Friday 11.15-12.45 - room A8, building C11

The course includes about 40 hours of theoretical lectures (5 CFU) and 12 hours of laboratory (1 CFU). The laboratory sessions will be carried out at the end of the theoretical lessons, with a schedule to be agreed upon with the students.

    • The lecture scheduled for Friday 2/10 is cancelled due to the teacher's previous commitment.

Regular lectures will restart on Wednesday 7/10.

    • Introduction to structural biology: the importance of structure-property relationships. Protein databases. Software for visualizing protein structures.

    • Hypothetical mechanism of the enzyme, based on the crystallographic structures of the protein obtained in different states.

The video was prepared with UCSF Chimera starting from coordinate files available on PDB.

    • This video was generated using the ChimeraX software and focuses on the structure of a PETase protein, a bacterial enzyme capable of hydrolyzing ester bonds in PET. (The low quality of the video is due to the file size limitation of Moodle.)
