    • Curriculum Vitae del Prof. Stefano CRISTIANI

    • INFO ABOUT LECTURES AND EXAMS (PART OF M. GIRARDI)

    • Part of the course is based on computer in student laboratory, a lot of stuff can be taken from moodle2, plus fits files via flashusb, the use of an individual flashusb is strongly suggested. Outdoor part at the local Observatory will be made with the help of Dr. Giula Iafrate depending on the agreement/funds of Department and Observatory.

    • ACTIVITIES AND EXERCISES

The are many home works to make, you can skip one but not more. If you skip, before the exams you have to present all of them!

    • If you are a good student=no skip homeworks, you will present only one argument.

For instance, for the year 2018/2019, this is the list of possible arguments for final exam/Girardi's part, ask to the teacher for the stuff you need: 1. Astrometry of an image; 2. Analysis of results for Radio Observations (V sim const in the I quadrant and Galaxy map - best in II and III quadrants); 3. Photometry (of an image, with galaxy/star classification too, or other); 4. Reduction and z measure of one one spectrum.

In other years, other arguments are possible depending of the year, i.e. the description of the experince in Asiago, a light curve of a varable, and so on.

    • FOR THE PART OF PROF. CRISTIANI, ASK HIM, GENERALLY A LAPTOP IS USEFUL AND THE EXAM IS BASED ON A PROPOSAL

    • TOPICS OF PREVIOUS YEARS

    • put the file source.* in your account, adapt it, and before working: source source.*

mkdir libsalva and put inside the library you need

  • CATALOGS AND ARCHIVES OF ASTRONOMICAL OBJECTS (e.g., ADS, CDS+Vizier,NED,DSS-ESO)+HOMEWORK
+catalogs dir in flashUSB or here at the end (ONLY FOR STUDENTS OF THE COURSE)
    • HOMEWORK su ADS/NED un file pdf entro il 31 marzo, ne discutiamo 02/04, poche righe suffcienti Assignment
Not available unless: Your Codice corso is SM23
  • FITS FILES and software DS9 +HOMEWORK

+fitsds9  and fitsds9HW 2directories in flashUSB (ONLY FOR STUDENTS OF THE COURSE) with:

***fitsds9.pdf (IMPORTANT!!! also hereafter in moodle)  to follow the lesson and the HW

HSTimagesprocessing.ps  (only to have a general idea of image processing)

riassuntoCCDriduzione.pdf (for data reduction, useful for the IRAF lessons and detailed explained by Prof. Cristiani)

***astr5110_practical4_v4.4.pdf  + many fits images (IMPORTANT!!! the basic stuff for the lesson)

several fits (in fitsds9  ***several fits used also for other lessons, in fitsds9HW only for the homework)

    • Homework ds9 (come richiesto alla fine del fitsds9.pdf) Assignment
Not available unless: Your Codice corso is SM23
  • software GAIA: visualization and astrometry + HOMEWORK

photometry+HW with SN+HW(light curve of variable) - with the possibility of a LONG TERM HW too,

    Star/Gals classification

+gaiaAstrom   +gaiaPhotom   in  flashUSB, hereafter main files.pdf.....you need  the .bashrc too

HOMEWORK ASTROMETRY: pput coordinates on the image EFOSC....fits and give me the coordinates of the 3 objs pointed by circles in EFOSC.jpg

  • Use of SDSS Survey +HOMEWORK on Star/Gals Classification

  • IRAF basics & data reduction +possible LONG HW with the reduction of a Spectrum no sl01 o sl02

+other stuff in flashUSB  or here at the end (ONLY FOR STUDENTS OF THE COURSE)

  • Astronomical observations & co with Giulia Iafrate.
For preparation of long term homeworks based on your data, too.
    • Remote Radio Observations of Our Galaxy

      * based on  what we have made in Astrophysics of Gals (Kartunnen book or other) for 21cm observations in Our Galaxy

for  the lecture you need SALSA.pdf file here

we will also need files from https://vale.oso.chalmers.se/salsa/welcome

USER MANUAL AND SALSA PROJECT: MAPPING THE MILKY WAY

VERY IMPORTANT: the day of observations, at the end, STOW position and TRACK to avoid damage!!!!

HW: make the V vs R and XY plots

FOR FINAL RELATION TOO, by taking more points by themselves and some more explanation/details

    • HOMEWORK su radio/SALSA Assignment
