Dear students,
To clarify some frequent questions about the English courses offered this year:
1. “English with specific contents for DEAMS” (Taught by Samuel Atkinson)
This is an integrative and support activity, designed to help you develop your academic and professional English skills — especially those relevant to your degree programme.
-
Attendance: optional (not compulsory).
-
Credits (CFU): this course does not award CFU — it is an extra learning opportunity, not part of any official study plan.
-
Purpose: it can help you strengthen your English, especially in preparation for Business English or for future professional contexts.
2. Business English (official course)
-
Nature of the course: Business English is a formal university course (mandatory for students in the English curriculum, elective in the Italian one).
-
Mandatory ProLingua course: all students must complete the ProLingua online course (about 30 hours) delivered through the Rosetta Stone platform.
-
Exam: the final exam takes place in person, using the tools provided by ProLingua (computer-based test with multiple choice language questions, listening and reading, no speaking or written parts). Registration for the final test is subject to the completion of the mandatory course.
-
CFU: the 3 CFU are awarded only upon completion of the mandatory ProLingua course and successful completion of the related exam.
-
Recognition: no other certificates (Cambridge, IELTS etc...) or previous university exams in English can replace this exam.
-
Registration: students must join the Moodle for the 2025/26 course here:

3. Online participation
Attendance for my support course (English with specific contents for DEAMS) normally takes place in person, but following the university’s guidelines, students may follow online when necessary:
