FORMAT OF THE COURSE:
It's a Lab course of
6 European-Credits-Transfer-System points (ETCS, or
"Crediti Formativi Universitari", CFU, in Italian) for the
"Laurea Magistrale" in Physics
(equivalent to an advanced
Master Degree in Physics in the Anglo-Saxon system).
It is proposed in particular, but not exclusively, for students from the Condensed Matter training track,
and does not requires particular knowledge of Condensed Matter beyond that acquired during the Bachelor Degree.
It amounts to a total of 72 hours of activity: about 24 of lectures
and about 48 of assisted sessions of Computer Lab.
- simple introductory exercises (with implementation and use of several basic algorithms of numerical analysis) to recover a basic expertise on Fortran 90, use of computers, error handling;
- exercises for specific applications and simulations, collection and analysis of data, visualization;
- comprehension, use, and rewriting of sample codes (draft sources in Fortran 90 available - used as an example, but participants can use any programming language)
- personal implementation of new codes
- 2 hours of lecture (Wed., 4:00-6:00 p.m., Room 0B Building H3) (in presence + streaming) and
- 4 hours of hands-on session - on-line only (Fri., 9:00-12:45)
Due to the pandemic situation that suggests to avoid the use of computer Lab, students are supposed to connect and use their own PC / laptops, that should be equipped with some standard software for editing, programming (fortran90, c++, python, java, ...) editor, simple visualization software.
