The course adopts two perspectives:
a) protection of fundamental rights in criminal proceedings;
b) judicial and police cooperation in criminal matters.
a) On the one hand, the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights and the EU directives on fundamental rights in criminal proceedings play a key role.
b) On the other hand, the focus is on advanced instruments of judicial and police cooperation in the European Union, in some cases leading to the creation of real centralised institutions (such as the European Public Prosecutor's Office).
The course will be held in seminar form and will be structured in frontal lessons and in oral reports on specific topics, assigned to individual participants. The didactic organization of the course presupposes, on the part of those who actively participate, the commitment to attend the lessons.
